It's the end of the chat as we know it

I had nothing to do this afternoon and my calc homework was giving me problems so I decided to go on the MIT12 chat since I haven't been on in a while. I entered the chat expecting the usual chaos and confusion but I was greeted by an ominous silence (and not because my speakers are turned off). Alina was only other person in the chat. This has never happened to me before so I was forced to conclude that one of several things had happened. Either (a) everyone was having computer problems, (b) the entire world except for New Jersey had been spontaneously combusted or, (c) the prefrosh had gotten lives. Faced with these three options, I immediately deduced that my state was the only remaining in the country.

I waited around for a minute and soon Jeff and Ale joined, convincing me that there must be some other reason, probably hiding in the 4th dimension, for the momentary collapse of the MIT12 chat.
